Detail tools

This is a set of modes for refining buildings and signage. Each mode has a shortcut; when you turn one on, its panel appears in the Tools panel.

The placement modes (Block text, Signs·banners, Decor) all work the same way.

  1. Press the mode key to open the panel.
  2. Set the text, type and shape in the panel.
  3. Click the face to attach to in the viewport. A green ghost appears there. The ghost does not change the world.
  4. When you edit the panel, the ghost updates immediately.
  5. Place it with Enter (or Place in the panel).
Input (all placement modes)Action
ClickSet the placement spot (ghost)
EnterPlace at the ghost position
Shift+clickPlace at that spot immediately
EscClear the placement spot

Builds Korean, English and numeric text (multiple lines) as block lettering. The fonts are the three pixel fonts built into the editor.

  1. Press Shift+T and type in the Text field. Picking from Examples… is faster.
  2. Click the side of a wall to make upright text facing out from that face. Click the top of a floor to make flat text facing the camera.
  3. Check the 2D preview at the bottom of the panel (as seen from the reading side) and the ghost, then press Enter.

ToolWhat it does
Reference image Load…Stands a PNG, JPG or WebP blueprint up as a translucent board. It faces the current view direction, so loading it in a front orthographic view gives a front elevation.
Drag the boardDrag to move the board (Shift = 0.5 block).
Scale: two pointsClick two points on the board (e.g. both sides of a door) and enter the real block count to fit the size.
Tape measureTwo points: distance · block count · height difference · slope
AngleArm end → vertex → other arm end
Measure selectionSize · volume · area · block count · exposed faces
Guide line · Plane · GridAxis-aligned line through the clicked point, a plane perpendicular to the axis, an N-block grid
Mirror X · Mirror ZSymmetry axis guide at the center of the selection box
CompositionOverlays such as rule of thirds and golden ratio (orthographic views only)
Board fieldMeaning
Opacity · Horizontal · Vertical · Ratio · Position · Rotation°Board shape
Lock · Visible · Flip horizontallyWhen locked, the board cannot be moved, resized or removed.
Orthographic view only (blueprint) · Always visibleBy default it is visible only in the orthographic view facing the same direction as the board.
Send to back · Send backward · Bring forward · Bring to frontBoard order
Copy to assets/refsWhen on, copies the image to the project’s assets/refs folder so it is visible on other PCs too (default off).
  • Measuring points snap to Face center · Block center · Block corner · Exact (mouse). Block counts include both ends (x 0 → 10 = 11 blocks).
  • If you pin a result, it stays on screen and is saved with the world.
  • In this mode, Ctrl+Z undoes boards and guides first. Esc discards the point being placed.
  • Edit › Toggle guide snap (placement · shape start point): when on, the placement cell and shape start point snap to a guide within 1 block (default on).

Turn on the Detail (refine · weathering) mode with Shift+W. First select a region with the Selection tool.

Smooth — Replaces stepped silhouettes with stairs (direction, top/bottom, corners) and slabs to make them smooth. The mass does not grow.

Substitute similar colorsMaterials without matching stairs or slabs use a similar color
Fixed materialIf empty, each block uses its own material (e.g. stone → stone_stairs)
Preview count · Apply smoothingOnly count the cells that would change · apply (one undo step)

Weathering — Adds moss, cracks, vines, breakage and dirt by probability.

FieldValueMeaning

  • While the mode is on, you can paint weathering by dragging in the viewport. One stroke = one undo step.
  • Repainting the same spot with the same seed changes nothing more. To add more, change the seed.

Turn on the Symmetry (mirror·radial) mode with Shift+M. Once on, symmetry keeps applying to Place, Break, Brush, Shape and drag boxes even after you leave the mode.

FieldMeaning
EnableWhen off, the axes remain dimmed and do not affect edits (Alt+M).
GhostsShows symmetric cells as translucent boxes in brush and shape previews
Mirror X · Mirror ZEast-west symmetry (x = Center X) · north-south symmetry (z = Center Z)
RadialN directions around the center (1 = off, 2–16). Unless 4 or 8, block orientations snap to the nearest 90°.
Diagonal NW-SE · Diagonal NE-SWDiagonal mirrors
Center X · Center Z · HeightCenter coordinates (.5 = block center, .0 = block edge)
Selection center · Focus · Pick centerSets the center to the selection box center · the camera focus cell · the clicked cell
Check · Fix (source side)Counts asymmetric cells inside the selection box, and matches the opposite side to the source side (one undo step).
Undo settingsReverts only the axis and center settings.
InputAction

Per-mode fields are in the tables of each section above. Settings in the Block text, Signs·banners and Decor panels are kept for the next launch.

  • If Ctrl+Z does not remove something, use the panel’s undo. Item frames, paintings and stands, text-only edits to signs, reference boards and guides, and symmetry settings have separate histories.
  • If the ghost does not appear, check that you clicked a spot first and that no large operation is running (status bar).
  • You can check the look in game with Copy command. If it looks different in game, please report the difference.
  • To use reference board images, save the world once to create the project folder, then press Copy now.
