Editor layout

The NP Editor window is laid out much like Unreal Engine 5. From top to bottom there are the menu bar, the main toolbar, the docking panels with the viewport in the middle, and the status bar. Buttons are shown as icons; hover over one to see its name and shortcut in a tooltip.

The parentheses next to a menu item show its current shortcut. If you change the shortcut, this text changes too. When a plugin adds a menu, the new menu appears before Help.

The right end of the menu bar holds the following.

World nameThe current world file name. A new world that has not been saved is Untitled. Hover to see the full path.
Changed dotA small dot lights up when there are unsaved changes.
Target versionA dropdown for choosing the Minecraft version to build the map for. See “Choosing the target version” in Install and first launch.
PositionButtonWhat it does
LeftSaveSaves the current world (Ctrl+S).
LeftMode rowMode buttons such as Block brush, Selection, Landscape and Foliage. If there are more than 8, the rest are under ▾ More modes.
LeftAddQuick add. Search for blocks, shapes, props, volumes, lights and markers and place them at the mouse position (or in front of the screen center if there is none). Enter = first item.
CenterPlay · ▾Starts Play. In ▾, choose the mode (Play · Simulate) and start location (From current camera position · Spawn point).
CenterPause · One tick · Eject · StopUsed only during Play. See Testing in Play mode.
RightSound previewTurns sound emitter preview on and off and sets its master volume.
RightBlock to placeThe icon and name of the block you will place.

You can also switch modes with number keys. 1–7 go to Block brush, 4 · 8 to Selection, and T to Landscape mode. For the full list of keys, see Shortcuts.

PanelContents
ToolsA grid of tool icons and the options for the current mode. Icon tooltips show “name (key)”.
OutlinerShows the world’s actors with name, type, eye, lock and block count. Has search and folders. See Scene actors and Outliner.
DetailsShows the properties of the selected actor, block or selection as “name | value” rows.
Content BrowserFind blocks, prefabs, models, sounds and textures and drag them into the viewport. See Content Browser.
Output LogAll text written by the editor and plugins. Every short notification is also kept here.
ConsoleType commands as text: fill · replace · select · tp · lookat · cam · shot · help, and more. ↑ ↓ = previous commands, Tab = completion. ~ is the cell under the mouse.
HistoryThe list of undo steps. Click a row to go to that step.

The layout (areas, order, open, collapsed, split positions) is kept the next time you launch.

Since 0.9.9: Floating panels and tool windows open as operating system windows. You can move them outside the editor window or to another monitor.

This applies to floating panels, prefab editing, Design tools, Export, Editor Preferences, Shortcuts, Plugin Manager, Performance settings, the zone trigger wizard, formula editing, the UV Editor, and the world logic variables window. To keep them inside the editor window, turn off Edit › Editor Preferences… › Appearance › Floating windows outside the editor. Windows that are already open change the next time you open them.

Dialogs close with Esc. The primary action button is the blue button at the lower right.

Click the axis indicator at the lower left to switch to an orthographic view from that direction. Each button is explained in detail in Camera and views.

Right-click without dragging to open a menu. Holding the right mouse button and moving the mouse looks around with the camera.

Quick addSubmenus by category — places the item in the cell you right-clicked.

Short notifications appear briefly at the lower right of the viewport and then disappear. The same text is kept in the Output Log.

The single row at the bottom of the window. From the left, it shows the following in order.

Long task progressWhile a long task runs, its name, a progress bar and a cancel button (Esc) are shown.
Selection sizeThe selection size (e.g. “Selection 8×5×6”) or the number of cells in a grouped selection.
MeshingThe number of chunks waiting for meshes to draw. Hover for detailed values.
FPSRecent average frames per second.
CoordinatesThe coordinates of the cell under the mouse. The coordinates in parentheses are the cell where a block would be placed.
Save stateSaved or Modified.

The viewport area is split into a World tab and a Paint tab. Switch with Ctrl+Tab or Tools › Switch Paint tab / World tab. While the Paint tab is shown, world editing keys are blocked. See Paint and materials.
