Face extrude
Drag a handle on one face of a block group (top, bottom or any of the four sides) to extend or shrink it. If you select two or more layers, the pattern continues on its own, like spreadsheet auto-fill. Diagonal stairs, spiral pillars and pyramids also continue if you build just a few layers and drag.
How to open
Section titled “How to open”| Method | Action |
|---|---|
| Ctrl+E | Mode Face extrude (pattern) |
| Main toolbar mode row | Face extrude (pattern) (if it is not in the row, More modes) |
When the mode is on, the Face extrude panel appears in the Tools panel.
Quick start
Section titled “Quick start”- Box-select the part to extend with the Selection tool. Select as much as the pattern repeats (e.g. two layers).
- Press Ctrl+E.
- Click the face of the selection box you want to extend. A yellow arrow handle appears at the center of the face.
- Drag the arrow outward. A green ghost shows the blocks to be added.
- If you do not like the interpretation shown next to the handle, change it with Tab.
- Apply with Enter. This is one undo step.
You can also click an exposed block face directly without a selection. The exposed faces (one layer) connected in the same direction as the clicked face become the target.
Extending and shrinking
Section titled “Extending and shrinking”| Input | Action |
|---|---|
| Drag outward | Extends by N blocks (green ghost). |
| Drag inward | Removes N layers starting from the face layer (red ghost). |
| Panel Blocks | Enter a number (− = shrink, −4096–4096). |
| Tab · Shift+Tab | Next · previous interpretation |
| Enter · Apply | Apply (large operations show a progress bar) |
| Esc · Cancel | Cancel the preview |
The text “+N blocks · interpretation” appears next to the handle.
Interpretation
Section titled “Interpretation”How the selected layers continue is called the interpretation. Auto is the interpretation with the shortest period among those that exactly describe the selected layers. Press Tab to cycle in the order below. Interpretations that do not fit the selected layers are not listed.
| Order | Interpretation | Result | Use for |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Auto | The best fit among the ones below | Most cases |
| 2 | Repeat | Repeats p layers of period as they are | Wall patterns · window rows |
| 3 | Shift | Layers shift out by k blocks each period | Diagonal stairs · spirals |
| 4 | Size change | The outline shrinks or grows by a fixed amount per layer (stops at 0) | Pyramids · cones · spires |
| 5 | Rotate | Rotates 90° around the Y axis per layer (top and bottom faces only) | Spiral pillars |
| 6 | Repeat whole selection | Repeats all selected layers as one chunk | When there is no period |
| 7 | Copy face layer only | Keeps duplicating only the outer face layer | Simple thickening |
- If you select only one layer, the only option is Copy single layer. Stair and slab orientations are copied as they are.
- Size change shrinks or grows only by whole blocks per layer.
Inserted modules
Section titled “Inserted modules”While extending a wall, a prefab is inserted every N blocks. Use it for castle-wall stairways, archer posts and towers.
- First save the part to insert as a prefab (Prefabs).
- Choose it under Prefabs in the panel’s Inserted modules group. If the list is empty, reload it with the button next to it.
- Set Interval, Start, Cut through wall and Direction.
- Drag the wall face to extend it; the modules are shown as ghosts too. Apply with Enter.
| Field | Value | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Prefabs | List | Prefab to insert (including ones made with Save as prop (prefab) in the Outliner) |
| Interval | Every 1–512 blocks (default 8) | Spacing between modules (layers) |
| Start | From block 1–512 (default 4) | Position of the first module (how many blocks from the face) |
| Cut through wall | On (default) · Off | Replaces wall cells inside the module box with the module’s. Empty cells in the module become door or passage openings. |
| Direction | Rotate 0° button | Each press rotates the module 90° around the Y axis. |
Modules are placed aligned to the horizontal center and bottom of the wall cross-section. The wall and modules go into the original actor and form one undo step together.
Since 0.9.8: Inserted modules was added.
Options

| Clear with empty cells | Off (default) | When on, empty cells in the pattern remove existing blocks. When off, existing blocks at empty-cell positions stay. |
| Duplicate props too | On (default) | Also duplicates props in the selected layers (Repeat and Shift interpretations only). |
| Inserted module fields | Table above | Prefab insertion |
Shortcuts
Section titled “Shortcuts”| Key | Action |

Tips / cautions
Section titled “Tips / cautions”- Added blocks go into the actor of the original layer. Cells in locked groups are skipped.
- One operation can change at most 64 million blocks (64 × 1024 × 1024) and 4096 layers. Beyond that, “Too large” appears next to the handle.
- Large extrusions are applied across several frames and the panel shows progress.
- If the interpretation you want does not appear, reselect so the number of layers matches one period of the pattern.
- Example: Select two layers of a castle wall (stone wall + parapet) and drag 40 blocks sideways; “Repeat with period 2” continues the parapet. Add a tower prefab every 20 blocks in Inserted modules and the towers go up with it.
